I am trained as a practitioner in the Meyers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI), a tool that is widely used in all kinds of industries and sectors to help people understand their innate personality and how it is expressed. I call this how a person “shows up” in the world.
My MBTI profile has been all over the map since 1997 when I first took the assessment, but I feel it that the INTJ I revealed last fall is my best fit type. And then last week I swapped out my I (introversion) for and E (extroversion). Apparently, I can masquerade as a extravert REALLY well (I think that’s a skill in itself!).
It turns out, I am showing up in the world now in the extroverted way I need to in order to do my best work at this moment in time. To get this website going and find clients, I need to put myself out there; to make changes happen at work, I have to get buy-in from my colleagues and that means doing more thinking out loud, and more socializing. My truly ENTJ colleague tells me I’ll enjoy trips to the staff room but I know that what I really get out of it is the jitters, and not just from the coffee.
What’s your type? Are you curious to find out?
